Monte Hewett Embarks on his first International Mountain Bike Race in Costa Rica

Monte is leaving tomorrow (Monday) for Costa Rica to embark on a truly amazing journey! He is competing in the La Ruta de los Conquestadores mountain bike race across Costa Rica. The race is labeled “The Toughest Mountain bike race in the world” and rightly so! Competitors ride a total of total of 360 kilometers and traverse a total of 14,500 feet of vertical climbing! Are you kidding me?  The race starts on the Pacific coast of the country and goes all the way through the mountains, jungles and rain forrests to the Gulf coast on the other side. Incredible.

Monte has been training very hard for many months for this the most challenging race of his life. We at MHH are very proud of him and sent him off with some much needed “emercency supplies” of Ben Gay, ace bandages, bandaids, first aid kits and such. We hope he won’t need any of it!

We’re hoping the race website will post the riders’ progress each night, but we’re not sure. The first stage of the race kicks off Wednesday morning. Here’s a link to the route map. We will post the other stage on the morning that he starts each one. Follow along!
