Atlantans tend to gravitate outdoors as soon as the weather hits 65 plus, do we not? And where do many people play, you ask? PIEDMONT PARK! And there is excitement in the air about some new additions to the Park.
On April 12th Piedmont Park opened 35 acres of new land just in time for the upcoming Dogwood Festival. The festival is set to run from April 15-17. Mayor Kasim Reed was on hand to cut the ribbon on the new additions to the park which include an interactive Legacy Fountain that closely rivals the one located in Centennial Olympic Park (and shoots water almost 30 feet in the air – watch 11Alive video here!) Also new are an array of boardwalks that wind through wetland and pond areas, basketball courts, and two new ‘lawn areas’ that add plenty of extra space to hang out and enjoy the fresh air.
The Piedmont Park Conservancy has set out to raise almost $2 million with the hope to open an additional 18 acres by the end of this year. These new additions add value to an already outstanding local landmark! The Park is just a short drive for our Brookhaven Manor townhome community. All of the surrounding communities and residents will benefit from these improvements for years to come.
